With VCE classes scheduled straight after the school holiday period, it was imperative that CBG provide Flinders Christian Community College (FCCC) with a high-class facility built to time and budget on the site of an old carpark and grassy knoll. CBG achieved the completion date despite busy school days and at times restricted site accessibility to allow for student tours. Throughout the project we worked in harmony with FCCC contractors and other staff. CBG was responsible for obtaining a staged building permit which allowed works to begin immediately on the subfloor. All materials were delivered in early December, so that works could continue without delay through the Christmas period. This meant that we had to secure and protect the materials for the duration of the project. As with all CBG projects, OH&S compliance is one of the most important elements. Working at heights of approx. 8m saw the use of roof harnesses and scaffold. The steel-framed structure with a curved corrugated clad roof was tough on the outside, but inside needed to be fitted with robust products to suit a busy school environment. CBG suggested more durable products, such as compressed straw used on the curved ceilings which totalled 1000sqm. As part of the client’s brief, we also allowed for large amounts of fresh air circulating through the corridors without letting weather in. The end result of continual consultation across 8 months now sees 11 class rooms, a theatre, 2 corridors and kitchenette which flow seamlessly as a harmonious light-filled and airy learning environment. FCCC now use the multi-faceted space as a senior learning centre as well as a recreational area.fccc-senior-learning-centre
